Texas Rowing Center is excited to announce the return of stand-up paddleboard yoga sessions! SUP yoga classes are taught by Sonya Palumbo. Sonya has been teaching for the past three years at Soul Strong Yoga in Round Rock.

Stand-up paddleboard yoga offers a one-of-a-kind activity that is gaining popularity among Austinites looking for a unique and fun fitness and nature experience. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi looking to shake up your routine or it’s your first time, SUP yoga offers a refreshing way to find balance on and off the mat. We talked with Sonya about what to expect at the classes, and advice for beginners, and everything else you would need to know.
What are the benefits of SUP yoga?
"Doing SUP yoga can help improve your balance, build strength and grow your mindfulness practice. Spending time outdoors can help reduce stress and improve your overall mood. The benefits are both physical and mental. Also, it's so much fun!"
What should I bring to SUP yoga?
"I recommend packing light as you don't want too many things on your board. But you really don't need much. Just water, a hat and sunscreen. Wear clothes that are comfortable, easy to move in and that you don't mind getting wet."

When are SUP yoga classes and how much do they cost?
"SUP yoga classes will be every Sunday morning at 9:00am - 10:15am. Tickets are $40 per person and the class size is a maximum of 15 people. Classes will run from May to the end of October."
What can I expect at the class?
"We'll meet at the Texas Rowing Center dock where we'll get everyone set up on their paddleboards. Then we'll paddle for about 10 minutes, which gives students an opportunity to warm up and get comfortable on the board. We'll start our yoga flow seated and slowly move up to standing and play around with trying to balance with different poses. At the end there is a short relaxing meditation where students will lay on their boards and let the water gently rock them."

Is there anything else beginners should know before getting started with SUP yoga?
"We welcome all levels, whether you're new to yoga or paddleboarding. We ease you into it and guide you through the whole thing. And you don't have to stand on your board if you don't want to. The yoga flow can be done seated or at a low stance."

SUP yoga on the lake serves as a gentle reminder that balance isn't just about body posture, but also about breath and mental state amidst nature. After those moments of stillness, I sometimes find a similar sense of focus while navigating the curves of the Poly Track, where calmness and reflexes blend like a gentle dynamic meditation.
It offers both physical benefits—such as improved balance and strength—and mental benefits, including reduced stress and a better overall mood. Accessible to beginners GeoGuessr yet engaging for experienced yogis, SUP yoga provides a refreshing alternative to traditional yoga that helps participants build confidence, stay present, and find balance both on the water and in everyday life.
The game's framework is broken up into weeks, each of which introduces a new opponent or group of opponents with distinct songs and levels of difficulty. Even without a lot of fnf conversation or explanation, the game has a feeling of growth and narrative flow because to its episodic nature.
Sonya's experience at Soul Strong Yoga is impressive, what specific benefits can students expect from combining yoga with stand-up paddleboarding, and how will the classes at Texas Rowing Center be tailored for beginners?
